Jan 22, 2019 Force Quit the Messages Application. Close the app by pressing the Home button twice. Simply swipe up the Messages App in order to close it. If you are using iPhone X or your iOS does not have a home button, go to the home screen. Swipe up and search for the Messages app. Swipe it up and try to open the Messages again. Turn Off MMS Messaging.

In the Messages app on your Mac, use the Settings pane of iMessage preferences to change options for your iMessage account.
To change these preferences, choose Messages > Preferences, then click iMessage. If you’re not signed in to iMessage, enter your Apple ID and password, then click Next. If you don’t have an Apple ID, click Create Apple ID.

- Launch Messages from your desktop, dock, or Applications folder.
- Enter your Apple ID email address and password. If you have two-step or two-factor authentication turned on for your Apple ID, enter your verification code.

How to set up Messages in iCloud in macOS
